Maldivian, the national airline of the Maldives, has expanded its partnership with AVIAREPS India, moving the agency’s mandate from South India representation to a pan-India General Sales Agent (GSA) role.
The move signals a broader push by the Maldivian to strengthen its presence in India and build sales across markets beyond its traditional South India base. Through AVIAREPS India’s nationwide network, the airline plans to intensify trade engagement, sales development and market visibility across key Indian cities.
India remains a critical source market for the Maldives, generating nearly 190,000 visitor arrivals in 2025. For Maldivian, the opportunity extends beyond leisure travel to segments including VFR, medical and business travel.
The airline currently operates five weekly direct flights from Malé to Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, along with twice-weekly services between Hanimaadhoo and Thiruvananthapuram. Its domestic network in the Maldives also enables passengers arriving from India to connect onwards to resort islands, local communities and business centres across the archipelago.
The expanded GSA arrangement comes as Maldivian evaluates further network and capacity growth. The airline has recently added an Airbus A330 widebody aircraft to its fleet and is continuing its fleet development programme, potentially creating scope for additional international connectivity.
For the Indian travel trade, the pan-India mandate could translate into stronger local sales support and greater engagement with agents outside the airline’s established South India markets. It also gives Maldivian a wider commercial platform as competition for Indian outbound travellers to the Maldives remains strong.
Maldivian Managing Director Ibrahim Iyas said the expanded mandate would allow the airline to take a more coordinated approach to trade engagement and market development in India.
AVIAREPS COO Marcelo Kaiser said the wider mandate would leverage the company’s nationwide network and travel-trade expertise to create new growth opportunities for Maldivian.
The expanded partnership therefore comes at a strategic point for the airline, combining a broader India sales footprint with potential fleet and network expansion as it seeks to capture evolving travel demand between India and the Maldives.
