Sarova Hotels & Resorts Targets Growing Indian Demand for Experiential Destination Weddings in Kenya

August 17, 2026 | Press Release

As Indian destination weddings increasingly evolve from single-day celebrations into multi-day experiences, Sarova Hotels & Resorts is looking to strengthen its position in the Indian wedding market by combining beachfront celebrations in Kenya with leisure, culture and safari experiences.

The Kenyan hospitality group is positioning its portfolio of city hotels, beach resorts and safari lodges as an option for Indian couples seeking to extend the wedding into a broader holiday for families and guests. The proposition brings together celebrations along the Indian Ocean coast with experiences across destinations such as the Maasai Mara, Samburu, Lake Nakuru and Nairobi.

At the centre of the offering is Sarova Whitesands Beach Resort & Spa in Mombasa, which caters to both intimate gatherings and larger Indian weddings. Couples can customise traditional functions including Mehendi, Haldi, Sangeet, the wedding ceremony and reception, with arrangements spanning décor, entertainment, dining, spa experiences and curated activities.

The resort offers three wedding packages — Coastal Elegance, Signature Indian Ocean Wedding and Ultimate Sarova Celebration — with varying accommodation, experiences and inclusions that can be further tailored to individual requirements.

Sarova is also pitching Mombasa as more than a wedding venue. Guests can combine celebrations with sunset dhow cruises, marine activities, wellness experiences and visits to attractions including Mombasa Old Town, Fort Jesus and Haller Park. Couples can subsequently extend their stay into a safari, creating a multi-destination Kenyan itinerary around the wedding.

The group is leveraging its Indian heritage and familiarity with Indian wedding traditions as part of its proposition. Services can include assistance with Indian wedding planners, Hindu priests and temples in Mombasa, alongside customised Indian, Jain, vegetarian and international menus.

Sarova has previously hosted Indian weddings, including celebrations involving Indian television personality Rannvijay Singha and Priyanka Vohra.

Mita Vohra, Board Director, Sarova Hotels & Resorts, said the shift towards experience-led weddings is creating an opportunity for Kenya to appeal to Indian couples looking beyond conventional destination wedding formats.

“Indian weddings are becoming increasingly experience-led, with couples looking to create memorable journeys for their families and guests rather than simply a wedding celebration,” Vohra said.

She added that Kenya’s combination of natural landscapes, culture, hospitality and adventure allows Sarova to bring these elements together within a single wedding journey.

The move comes as Indian wedding travel continues to expand beyond the traditional beach and resort destinations, with couples increasingly seeking destinations that can offer celebrations alongside discovery and shared experiences for extended groups.

For Sarova, the strategy is therefore less about selling a wedding venue and more about packaging Kenya as a complete celebration-and-holiday proposition — with the wedding serving as the centrepiece of a wider destination experience.
