Disney New Class Ship

Disney Cruise Line Unveils New 100,000-GT Ship Class for 2029

August 17, 2026 | Press Release

New vessels will be smaller than the Wish class, potentially giving Disney greater flexibility to operate in a wider range of destinations

Disney Cruise Line is preparing to expand its fleet with a new class of smaller ships, with three vessels scheduled to join the fleet between 2029 and 2030.

The cruise line unveiled the first look at the new class during the D23 fan event, confirming that all three ships will be built by German shipbuilder Meyer Werft. The vessels are currently planned for delivery in spring 2029, fall 2029 and fall 2030, although further details on names and debut itineraries are yet to be announced.

At approximately 100,000 gross tons and with capacity for around 3,000 guests, the new ships will sit between Disney Cruise Line’s original vessels and its newer Wish-class ships in terms of size. By comparison, the fourth Wish-class ship, scheduled to enter service in 2027, will measure around 140,000 gross tons and accommodate approximately 4,000 passengers.

The smaller footprint could become an important strategic advantage for Disney. Ships of this size can potentially access ports and destinations that are less suited to today’s larger cruise vessels, giving the cruise line greater flexibility in developing itineraries beyond the traditional cruise hubs.

The new ships will also mark a shift in Disney’s approach to propulsion and energy efficiency. Unlike the Wish-class vessels, which use LNG, the new ships are expected to operate using a range of fuels, including renewable methanol and hydrotreated vegetable oil. Disney has also highlighted a streamlined, fuel-saving hull, next-generation power and propulsion systems and other technologies aimed at improving energy efficiency.

The first artwork retains Disney Cruise Line’s recognisable visual identity, including the black hull, white superstructure and signature red funnels. A striking three-deck glass section is also visible in the rendering, although Disney has not yet confirmed what space will sit behind it.

The new class follows the continued expansion of the fleet. Disney currently operates six ships, while Disney Destiny and Disney Adventure are also part of the fleet expansion programme. The fourth Wish-class ship is scheduled for 2027.

With three additional ships now planned, Disney Cruise Line is positioning itself for a 13-ship fleet by 2031, signalling a sustained expansion strategy while introducing a ship size designed to offer greater itinerary flexibility and improved efficiency.
