Tourism New Zealand and Malaysia Airlines Team Up to Drive New Zealand Travel from India

August 22, 2026 | Press Release

Tourism New Zealand and Malaysia Airlines have joined forces to encourage more Indian travellers to discover New Zealand, combining destination inspiration with promotional airfares and one-stop connectivity via Kuala Lumpur.

The partnership includes a consumer campaign and special promotional fares available until September 6, 2026, for travel through March 31, 2027. The early-booking push is aimed at travellers planning their upcoming international holidays, with the partners highlighting the benefits of securing preferred travel dates and flight availability in advance.

Adding flexibility to the booking proposition, Malaysia Airlines is offering a full refund in the event of visa rejection, subject to applicable terms and conditions.

One-stop connectivity from 10 Indian gateways

Malaysia Airlines connects India with New Zealand via Kuala Lumpur, with one-stop options available from 10 gateways across India. The airline is also positioning its onboard experience as part of the holiday journey, with its signature Malaysian Hospitality and upgraded travel options.

Selected services feature the airline’s new A330neo, offering enhanced cabin features including high-speed Wi-Fi, upgraded inflight entertainment, spacious seating and curated dining. Business Class travellers can also access enhanced privacy and premium cabin features.

For passengers looking for greater flexibility, Malaysia Airlines’ Economy Flex fares offer additional travel benefits designed to make itinerary changes easier.

New Zealand beyond the postcard

Tourism New Zealand is using the campaign to showcase the breadth of experiences available to Indian travellers, from the waterfront cities of Auckland and Wellington to the alpine landscapes of Queenstown and Lake Tekapo.

The destination proposition also includes Rotorua’s geothermal attractions and Māori cultural experiences, Milford Sound cruises, and New Zealand’s food and wine offerings.

Adventure, nature, culture and relaxation are being positioned as key pillars of the New Zealand holiday experience, allowing travellers to build itineraries around different interests rather than a single style of holiday.

Add Malaysia to the itinerary

The partnership also gives eligible passengers an opportunity to extend their journey beyond the transit point through Malaysia Airlines’ Bonus Side Trip (BST) programme.

Eligible travellers flying beyond Malaysia can add a complimentary stopover in another Malaysian destination, without additional airfare, before continuing to New Zealand. Options include exploring Penang’s UNESCO World Heritage streets, the beaches of Langkawi or the cultural attractions of Kuching.

The partnership therefore gives Indian travellers the option of combining two destinations in one trip—Malaysia and New Zealand—while using Kuala Lumpur as the connecting point.

With promotional fares, visa-related booking flexibility, one-stop connectivity and the opportunity to add a Malaysian stopover, Tourism New Zealand and Malaysia Airlines are positioning the campaign around a broader proposition: making the journey to New Zealand easier while giving Indian travellers more reasons to extend their holiday.
