Tourism and Events Queensland brought together India’s travel trade, and media for a high-tea networking evening that highlighted Queensland’s growing engagement with the Indian market.
The evening welcomed Andrew Powell (Minister of Education, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Govt of Queensland) and Patricia O’Callaghan (Director-General, Department of Education, Tourism, Science and Innovation, Govt of Queensland), who were visiting India with a Queensland delegation to strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders.
Discussions naturally turned to Queensland’s long-term tourism roadmap, including the Destination 2045 strategy and preparations for the 2032 Summer Olympics and 2032 Summer Paralympics in Brisbane.
“The India opportunity is huge for Queensland and we have only just scratched the surface,” said Ryna Sequeira, Director – India, Tourism and Events Queensland. She further added, ““With growing tourism infrastructure and aviation developments in the years ahead, we will really see the market pivot in our direction — and we will be ready.”
If the conversations in the room were any indication, Queensland is clearly thinking long-term when it comes to India.
