Destination DC Concludes Three-City India Sales and Media Mission

August 10, 2026 | Press Release

Destination DC, the official destination marketing organisation for Washington, DC, concluded its annual India sales and media mission with engagements across Delhi, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad from August 2 to 7.

The mission brought together travel advisors, tour operators and media representatives to highlight new attractions, hospitality developments, culinary experiences and neighbourhood offerings in the US capital.

India continues to be a key international market for Washington, DC. The country ranked first in international visitor spending in 2024 and 2025 and is projected to retain the position in 2026. India was also the destination’s second-largest international visitor market in 2025, after Canada.

As part of the six-day mission, Destination DC hosted fireside chats, networking events and destination-focused activations in the three cities. More than 120 travel trade professionals and media representatives participated across the programme.

A key focus was the National Geographic Museum of Exploration, one of Washington, DC’s newest cultural attractions. The delegation also presented updates on the city’s museums, culinary scene, hospitality sector, neighbourhood experiences and year-round events calendar.

The mission also reflected Destination DC’s growing focus on Tier 2 Indian markets. In Ahmedabad, the organisation highlighted the city’s increasing outbound travel potential and pointed to Washington, DC’s vegetarian dining options, alcohol-free bars, Indian restaurants and strong Gujarati community connections as relevant propositions for travellers from Gujarat.

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) joined the delegation in Delhi for meetings with airline partners focused on strengthening air connectivity between India and Washington, DC. Discussions also covered planned renovations at Dulles International Airport, including additional international arrival gates and improvements to the passenger experience.

Destination DC said it will continue working with Indian travel trade and media partners to drive visitor growth and strengthen awareness of Washington, DC beyond its traditional attractions and political landmarks.
